Its use is vital for both defense and offense, allowing you to influence enemy communications, identify their positions, protect your own troops, and disorient the enemy.
Types of electronic warfare and their application:
Ukraine has a variety of CBR systems that can be classified by their purpose:
- Reconnaissance and Detection: EW systems are actively used to intercept and analyze enemy radio signals. This makes it possible to identify their radio stations, radars, communication systems, and even unmanned aerial vehicles. The information obtained is critical for situational awareness and planning operations.
- Suppression and Jamming: One of the main tasks of EW is to block or disrupt enemy electronic systems. This can include jamming GPS signals to disorient drones, suppressing communication channels to disrupt coordination, or even disabling radars and guidance systems. Ukraine is actively using mobile and stationary electronic warfare systems to counter Russian drones, such as Orlan-10 and Lantset, and to combat their radio reconnaissance capabilities.
- Radar Cloaking and Deception: EW can create false targets or distort information received by enemy radars to mislead them. This can help conceal the movement of your own troops, protect targets from missile attacks, and confuse enemy forces.
- Protection of Own Systems: In addition to affecting the enemy, electronic warfare also protects its own electronic assets from enemy jamming and reconnaissance. This includes the use of jam-resistant communication systems and special protection algorithms.
